General information for licensed clinics, not legal, regulatory or medical advice.

This is a short explainer you can share with your front desk and clinical staff. For the full operator's guide, see medical weight management programs for clinics.

What is medical weight management?

It's medicine, not a product. Three things make it medical:

  1. A licensed provider leads it. A physician, or an NP or PA within North Carolina's rules.
  2. It starts with an evaluation. History, current health and goals, documented in the chart.
  3. It includes follow up. The provider checks in on a schedule and adjusts the plan as needed.

How is it different from a diet program?

A diet program sells a plan. Medical weight management is care from a provider who can evaluate, order labs, prescribe if appropriate and refer when needed. It's documented like any other medical service and supervised under state rules.

Who does what?

  • Provider: evaluation, clinical decisions, follow ups.
  • Nurse or MA: tasks the provider delegates within NC rules.
  • Front desk: booking, intake forms, payment, answering general questions with an approved script.
  • Practice manager: supply, storage, schedules.

How should staff talk about it?

Use plain words, and describe the service rather than the result.

Say: "Our provider will meet with you, review your health history and talk through a plan. Follow up visits are part of the program."

Avoid: Promising amounts, timelines or results. Results vary by patient, and the FTC expects health claims to be backed by competent and reliable scientific evidence.

If a patient asks a clinical question, such as whether a medication is right for them, the answer is always: "That's a great question for the provider."

Where do GLP-1 medications fit?

Some programs include GLP-1 medications when the provider decides they're appropriate. They're prescription drugs. Injectable GLP-1 products require refrigeration according to their package inserts, so supply and storage matter. See GLP-1 supply and cold chain basics.

Where does RevMed fit?

If your clinic is adding a program, RevMed's launch program helps build the workflow, team training and documents on a fixed 60 day calendar, with a soft open before any marketing. "RevMed's clinical team supports your providers." Clinical decisions stay with your provider, and no revenue is guaranteed.

The plan:

  1. Open your clinic account through our Partner Link.
  2. Launch with RevMed's setup support.
  3. Order from one source.

Common questions

Is medical weight management cash pay?

In the programs we support, yes.

Does every patient get medication?

No. The provider decides what's appropriate for each patient.

Can the front desk explain the program?

Yes, at a general level, using an approved script. Clinical questions go to the provider.

Why say "medical weight management"?

It describes a supervised clinical service, which is what the program is. It avoids implying a guaranteed result.
