General information for licensed clinics, not legal, regulatory or medical advice.

This piece supports our complete guide to medical weight management programs for clinics.

Where do clinics buy GLP-1 products?

From licensed, verified sources only. Depending on what your provider prescribes:

  • FDA approved brand products come through licensed pharmacies and distributors.
  • Compounded products come from state licensed 503A pharmacies or FDA registered 503B outsourcing facilities, and only where federal law allows. The shortage based flexibility for semaglutide and tirzepatide has ended, as FDA explains in its statement on GLP-1 supply stabilizing.

A real wholesale source will ask for your license before it ships anything. If a seller doesn't, that's your answer.

How do you verify a GLP-1 source?

  • Look up in state pharmacies with the NC Board of Pharmacy.
  • Check 503B facilities against FDA's registered outsourcing facility list.
  • Ask for certificates of analysis and lot numbers for what you receive.
  • Confirm the seller requires a valid prescription or clinic verification.
  • Be wary of anything sold for "research use" or with labels that look off. FDA warns that fraudulent labels exist.

FDA's BeSafeRx page is written for consumers, but its warning signs apply to clinics too.

How should clinics receive GLP-1 shipments?

  • Schedule deliveries for when trained staff are on site.
  • Check the packaging and temperature indicator on arrival.
  • Log the date, time, lot and condition.
  • Quarantine anything that arrives outside its labeled temperature range or damaged, and don't use it until the pharmacy gives written instructions. FDA has noted complaints of products arriving warm.
  • Move product into storage right away.

How do you store GLP-1 vials?

Follow the product labeling and your pharmacy's instructions. That's the rule. In general, operators should have:

  • A medical refrigerator used only for product, not a break room fridge
  • A temperature log, checked and signed on a schedule
  • A plan for power outages
  • Clear labeling and first in, first out rotation

How long an opened vial can be used is set by the labeling, your pharmacy and your provider. FDA's page on unapproved GLP-1 drugs also addresses multi dose vials. We don't give clinical or storage advice beyond pointing you to those sources.

Why does one source help?

Each supplier is another set of licenses to check, another portal and another set of shipments to receive and log. Fewer suppliers means fewer handoffs. That's the idea behind ordering through RevMed. RevMed puts it this way: "One source, not ten. Fewer vendors means fewer markups, fewer minimums and less time ordering."

Where does RevMed fit?

Through our RevMed partnership, verified clinics can order GLP-1s alongside peptides, DNA testing and medical supplies from RevMed Shop, which sells only to verified clinics. Each prescription product still requires a valid order from your provider. As RevMed puts it: "One login, one invoice, and reorders on your schedule instead of a dozen vendor portals." Once you're verified through RevMed, existing practices can be ordering within about 48 hours. RevMed also says ordering through one source means a lower cost per item. You'll see clinic pricing once you're verified.

Your provider decides what's prescribed.

The plan:

  1. Open your clinic account through our Partner Link.
  2. Launch with RevMed's setup support, if you're building a new program.
  3. Order from one source.

Common questions

Can we buy GLP-1s without a clinic license?

No legitimate source will sell prescription products without verifying your license.

Are compounded GLP-1s still available?

FDA says the shortage based enforcement discretion periods have ended. Check current FDA guidance with your pharmacy and counsel before assuming any compounded option is available.

What if a shipment arrives outside its labeled temperature range?

Quarantine it, log it and contact the pharmacy. Don't use it unless the pharmacy confirms in writing that it can be used.

How long can an opened vial be used?

Follow the labeling, your pharmacy and your provider.
